All my works composed for public projections are now made either in Cinema 32/47 (22.2 compatible) or in Ring/Double-dome 44/57 formats, as described in this page (sorry, in French). If
you have access to, or can build such a loudspeakers arrangement, you can dowload
the multichannel files directly from this link, and simply follow the channels mapping
and level calibration instructions. But one of the advantages of a high spatial resolution
is that it can then be easily
downscaled to other less demanding formats, with minimal
loss. Of course, each time a channel is removed, clarity
and subtlety is replaced with some spatial fuzziness, which will also
lead to a narrower listening point. blue + green
+ red + yellow + purple : NHK 22.2 (favorite) Please contact
me if your system is able to provide a minimum of :
16 channels, organized in two height levels, with at least
a center top speaker. An adaptation will be certainly possible. |
22.2 NHKThe NHK 22.2 format benefits now of a large international
recognition : it is
a ITU-SMPTE standard (ITU-R BS.2159-6), and we can
logically hope that it will become more and more present in
the electroacoustic community during the next years. You can download the following pieces in Wave format, 24 channels / 24 bits / 48
kHz. The channel mapping follows the NHK specifications, as
shown above and in this picture. If your software dosen't support such files (among DAWs, only Ardour and Reaper can do it) you will have to convert them to series of mono files with De-interleaver in OS X or Wavewizard in Windows.
Please, follow the links for the descriptions of the pieces (sorry, in French only), and listen to the binaural reductions and, sometimes, the visual animations that are provided :

The level of all my pieces
is set according to the K-System in K-20 : a
digital reference level (-20 dBFS RMS pink noise) corresponds
to -83 dBSPL for each channel, at the average listening point. The
result is that my pieces often seem to be too quiet compared to
other ones if the proper calibration ishas not been done. Additionnal files and documents :
HOA versionsSome of my pieces that are possibly suitable to a dome arrangement
may be also available in 7th Order Ambisonics.
